How to keep a car cool in the summer

Here in Tampa, we are all if not used to, at least aware of, the heat that we endure in the summer. It can get hot, and it can get humid. It is in these heated summer months that it is especially important to take care of yourself and others, as well as your animals because there are a wide variety of circumstances that could be harmful to your health related to heat.

Something else that is important to take care of in the heat is your vehicle. Think about it. It sits all day in the sun while you are at work or in the driveway while you are at home, and if it isn’t sitting in the heat, it is likely running because you are using it.

With heat and humidity reigning down on Tampa, we wanted to talk about some tips for keeping your vehicle cool this summer, because the heat can really wreak havoc on your vehicle and its performance.

It is almost a necessity to have a vehicle with air conditioning, especially in our area, so Ford is working on making A/C units more powerful, efficient and smart, by adding a variable displacement compressor that helps the air conditioning in a vehicle run more efficiently and consistently.

Tips to keep your vehicle cool in the summer

When you first get into your vehicle, contrary to what you may feel is wrong, roll the windows down for a few minutes and put the A/C on high. This is a way to quickly cool down the vehicle, and in turn, will allow you to keep the A/C on high for less time, saving energy.

If it is warm but not too unbearable, turn on the fan rather than the A/C.
Try not to keep switching the A/C on and off; adjust the temperature or fan speed for consistency. This also saves energy and fuel.

Obviously, if it’s not too hot you can roll down the windows instead of using the air conditioning.
