Hybrid vehicles used to be known simply as small cars that got great gas mileage but didn’t have much in terms of horsepower and torque. But that’s all changing. And it’s changing rapidly. Hybrid powertrains have become much more advanced than they were in the early days, and more and more people are becoming fans of what they can do. And because of that, automakers like Ford are beginning to expand their hybrid offerings. And that includes hybrid versions of models you may not expect. Hybrid Versions of the Ford F-150 and Mustang Are Coming
If you look back on the history of the automotive industry, you’ll see a variety of phases that cars, trucks and SUVs have gone through. Most recently, a phase highlighting the importance of fuel efficiency, including the rise of the hybrid, has come to pass. And with the rise of the hybrid has come the rise of the fully-electric vehicle. No longer are electric vehicles tiny, impractical cars that have a better chance of leaving you stranded somewhere than they do getting you to your destination. Instead, they’re now viewed as the future of the industry. So much so, in fact, that Ford has announced numerous electrified vehicles it plans to introduce in the next five years, including hybrid versions of two of its most iconic vehicles – the F-150 and Mustang. Unfortunately, for all of you Bronco fans, we are not expecting to see this legendary Ford icon anytime in the near future. That’s not to say it will never come back, but there will definitely not be a 2016 Ford Bronco, or definitely not a 2016 Ford SVT Bronco. (more…)
