For the 2017 model year, Ford will be offering an adaptive steering system on multiple models in the manufacturer’s lineup. Adaptive steering will help add to the versatility of Ford vehicles. So how many Ford models offer adaptive steering?
Both the 2017 Ford Super Duty and the 2017 Ford Edge will offer this special adaptive steering system. The system was first introduced on 2016 Ford Edge models.
What makes the Ford adaptive steering system different?
The Ford adaptive steering system differs from a conventional system in multiple ways. Adaptive steering allows the vehicle to offer variable steering ratios. This is particularly useful at lower or higher speeds. The computer-operated system can increase or decrease the steering ratio by up to 30 percent.
At lower speeds, the system increases the angle of the front wheel. Because of this, less steering wheel movement is required to steer the vehicle. Up to one full wheel revolution can be saved due to the adaptive steering system. At higher speeds, the system enables the vehicle to provide more relaxed responsiveness.

All of the elements of the adaptive steering system, which includes a small computer, electric motor and gear unit, are contained within the steering wheel. The system will work automatically, depending on the situation. Additionally, the adaptive steering technology includes a specific setting designed to optimize towing and hauling performance.
