2018 Ford Expedition vs 2018 Chevy Tahoe

Thanks to Ford consistently and habitually improving their lineup each and every model year, we’ve grown accustomed to saying a new model is better than ever before. And while that’s always true, it perhaps has never been more accurate than when talking about the 2018 Ford Expedition.

That’s because the new Ford Expedition features an all-new engine and 10-speed automatic transmission that makes it more powerful and capable than ever before. That includes best-in-class gas mileage ratings and best-in-class towing capabilities. We’ll get to the fuel efficiency ratings in a bit, but in terms of towing, the new Ford Expedition can handle up to 9,300 pounds. And since we’re in the midst of a 2018 Ford Expedition versus 2018 Chevy Tahoe head-to-head model comparison, we’ll also let you know the new Chevy Tahoe can only tow up to 8,600 pounds. Now, let’s get to all of the other ways the 2018 Expedition is far superior when compared to the 2018 Tahoe.

We already told you the 2018 Ford Expedition features an all-new engine and 10-speed automatic transmission that make it more powerful, more capable and more efficient than ever before, so now’s the time for some specifics. The new Ford Expedition features a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with Auto Start-Stop technology. This engine, combined with the all-new 10-speed transmission, allows your 2018 Expedition to pump out up to 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque while getting best-in-class gas mileage. More specifically, you’ll get up to 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. Now to compare that to what’s offered by the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe. The new Chevrolet Tahoe features a 3.5-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain can only provide you with up to 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, which pales in comparison to the power numbers of the new Expedition. The 2018 Tahoe is also smaller, providing you with only 15.3 cubic-feet of cargo space.
