Knocking the new Ford Explorer off its pedestal is a monumental task and, as you can see in the table above, it’s a task the new Hyundai Santa Fe simply can’t handle. That’s because the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe lineup completely and utterly pales in comparison to the 2018 Ford Explorer lineup in every important category, starting with engine options and power ratings.
The 2018 Ford Explorer lineup lets you choose from three impressively powerful and capable engines, with its standard engine offering 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque – power ratings that only get higher for its other two available engines. The 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe lineup, on the other hand, features only one engine. This engine offers 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque.
The new Ford Explorer lineup is also far more spacious and comfortable than the new Hyundai Santa Fe lineup. That’s because the 2018 Explorer lineup provides 151.5 cubic-feet of passenger space, 21 cubic-feet of cargo space behind its third row, 43.9 cubic-feet of cargo space behind its second row, and 81.7 cubic-feet of total cargo space. The 2018 Santa Fe lineup provides only 146.6 cubic-feet of passenger space, 13.5 cubic-feet of cargo space behind its third row, 40.9 cubic-feet of cargo space behind its second row, and 80 cubic-feet of total cargo space.
