2019 Ford Ranger vs 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Perhaps no other automotive brand is more worried than Chevy about Ford reentering the midsize pickup truck segment with the all-new 2019 Ford Ranger lineup. During Ford’s absence, Chevy has been able to enjoy relatively little midsize pickup truck competition, with the 2018 Chevy Colorado dominating most other midsize pickup truck offerings.

That’s all about to change, however, as the 2019 Ranger lineup looks to join its Ford truck brethren at the top of its respective class. To show you exactly why we think that, we put together this 2019 Ford Ranger versus 2018 Chevrolet Colorado head-to-head model comparison.

Listing the Advantages of the 2019 Ford Ranger Lineup at Brandon Ford in Tampa FL

Since everyone in the market for a new midsize pickup truck looks at power and capability before looking at anything else, we’re going to start our 2019 Ranger versus 2018 Colorado lineup comparison off by checking out what’s under the hood of each model.

The 2019 Ford Ranger lineup features a standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine mated to a standard 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The 2018 Chevy Colorado lineup, on the other hand, features a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission. As you can see, the 2019 Ranger lineup will not make you pay more for a V6 engine and an automatic transmission.

The one slight advantage the 2018 Colorado lineup holds over the 2019 Ranger lineup is in terms of towing. The 2019 Ford Ranger lineup can tow up to 7,500 pounds, while the 2018 Chevy Colorado lineup can tow up to 7,700 pounds. It should be noted, however, that all 2019 Ranger trim levels can tow up to 7,500 pounds, while only the top-of-the-line 2018 Colorado trim levels can tow up to 7,700 pounds – which, again, is a case of Chevy making you pay more for things that come standard on a Ford. The 2019 Ranger lineup can also haul more than the 2018 Colorado lineup – 1,840 pounds to 1,574 pounds.
