This time around, we’re taking a look at how the all-new 2019 Ranger lineup stacks up against the 2018 Toyota Tacoma lineup. In this battle of midsize pickup trucks, you’ll quickly learn that the all-new Ranger lineup is reentering the midsize pickup truck class with a roar and not a whimper. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, we don’t know the specific power ratings of the 2019 Ford Ranger lineup, but we do know enough about it to know that it will be a better choice than the 2018 Toyota Tacoma lineup for anyone looking to purchase a new midsize truck.

We say that because we do know the 2019 Ranger lineup will feature a standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost V6 engine paired with a standard 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Even without knowing the exact power ratings, it’s not hard to tell that this powertrain will be more powerful and more capable than the 2018 Tacoma lineup’s standard 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder engine and standard 6-speed manual transmission.

We also know for sure that the 2019 Ford Ranger lineup will be able to tow and haul more than the 2018 Toyota Tacoma lineup. That’s because the 2019 Ranger lineup features a maximum towing rating of 7,500 pounds and a maximum payload rating of 1,840 pounds, whereas the 2018 Tacoma lineup features a maximum towing rating of only 6,800 pounds and a maximum payload rating of only 1,620 pounds.
