What is the 2018 Ford EcoSport Honeycomb Cargo Shelf?
The all-new 2018 Ford EcoSport is coming to the United States, and that has a lot of people excited. Due to hit lots like Brandon Ford in Tampa, Florida, in 2018, the new EcoSport is Ford’s smallest SUV. But don’t let its size fool you. The all-new EcoSport has the biggest personality of any Ford car, truck or SUV, thanks in part to its choice between two powerful and efficient engines. It also has all the cargo and storage space you could ever need due to its innovative and bee-inspired honeycomb cargo shelf. What is this bee-inspired storage system, you ask? 2018 Ford EcoSport Honeycomb Storage Features
The 2018 Ford EcoSport features a four-way parcel shelf in its expansive cargo area that is made up of 100 percent high-strength recycled paper honeycomb. Constructed from all-natural paper and water-based glue, this six-pound honeycomb floorboard is both eco-friendly and strong enough to handle nearly 700 pounds of cargo across its 38.5-inch by 25.25-inch surface. That’s impressive in and of itself, but what’s even more impressive is the number of ways you can configure the shelf to meet your needs. There are, in fact, four different positions you can use in order to store whatever you need, whenever you need. In its lowest position, it serves as a load floor for maximum storage capabilities. In its middle position, it creates a secure storage area beneath the floorboard. In its highest position, the area underneath increases to create a cargo floor that lines up with the fold-flat second row of seats. It can also be removed and stored vertically against the back of the second-row of seats.
“The hexagonal design of honeycomb is a testament to nature’s ingenuity. Not only is it strong, it’s superlight. Customers can slide the shelf into multiple different slots like an oven rack; even store it on the back of the seats. It helps make EcoSport super-flexible in everyday use.” – Mike Mazzella, Ford EcoSport Assistant Chief Engineer.
